Delivering flowers in New York

New York delivery is about access, not distance. Many Manhattan buildings route deliveries through a service entrance or a doorman, offices have reception hours, and parking a van is slow and expensive, so many shops run part of the day on foot, by bike or with a courier. Same-day orders are normal in Manhattan. In GetFloristPOS, put the building notes (doorman, service entrance, floor, reception hours) in the delivery note, use shorter time slots for Manhattan and wider ones for the outer boroughs, and charge different fees per zone.

The flower trade in New York

Manhattan's flower district sits on West 28th Street between Sixth and Seventh Avenues, where wholesalers open before dawn for florists, event designers and plant buyers. It has shrunk over the years as rents rose, and several wholesalers have moved to other parts of the city, but many Manhattan and Brooklyn florists still buy there in person.

Shops in New York range from tiny storefronts doing walk-in and same-day delivery to event studios that rarely see a walk-in customer and spend the year on weddings, galas and hotel lobbies. Many do both, which means two very different kinds of order in one book.

Corner delis and grocery stores sell bunches cheaply on almost every block, so independent shops compete on design, reliable delivery and service for offices and events rather than on the price of a dozen roses.

FAQ

Can I set NYC sales tax once and forget it?

Yes. Create a tax group at New York City's combined rate and set it as the default for your shop; every sale adds it at checkout.

How do I handle doormen and service entrances?

Use the delivery note on each order. A saved address for a regular customer keeps the building details, so drivers see them every time.

Can I run bike or walking couriers alongside a van?

Yes. Assign each delivery to a driver or courier, and the van sheet groups their stops by time slot and zone.

Can I bill offices and hotels monthly?

Yes. Give them a house account; each order goes on their ledger and you send one statement.

We do galas. Can I track deposits per event?

Yes. An event order holds the deposit, the balance and the date it is due, and reminders go out before the event.

Can I log what I bought on 28th Street this morning?

Yes. Enter it as a purchase from that wholesaler; each lot gets a received date so you sell the oldest stems first.

We send a lot of wire orders out of state. Does that work?

Wire orders have their own queue. Your relay-network account connects by integration through our API connector, set up on a demo.

Can staff use it in Spanish?

Yes. The interface and receipts can be switched to Spanish per user or per layout.

Prices in USD. Plus sales tax where it applies, added at checkout. The USA desk keeps Mon–Fri 9 am–6 pm ET, Sat 10 am–2 pm.
