When do flower shops in United States get busiest?
- February 14
Valentine's Day: the single biggest delivery day of the year for most US florists, with roses pre-booked weeks ahead.
- Second Sunday of May
Mother's Day: the busiest weekend of spring, heavy on delivery and pre-orders from out-of-town children.
- April to October
Wedding season: deposits taken months ahead, with consultations, recipes and final counts to track.
- Late November to December
Thanksgiving centerpieces, then Christmas and holiday décor, wreaths and corporate standing orders.
- Year-round
Sympathy and funeral work: same-day deliveries to funeral homes, often billed to house accounts.
- May to June
Proms and graduations: corsages, boutonnieres and graduation bouquets.
The local flower trade
Most cut flowers sold in US shops are imported, largely from Colombia and Ecuador, and most of those arrive through Miami before trucking out to wholesalers. California is the largest domestic grower, and many shops also buy local and seasonal stems from nearby farms in summer.
Florists buy from wholesale houses and flower markets several times a week. The best-known wholesale districts are New York's flower district on West 28th Street and the Los Angeles flower district downtown; most other cities are served by regional wholesalers who deliver to shops.
Independent shops compete with supermarket floral departments, online order gatherers and the big relay networks (FTD, Teleflora, BloomNet). Many independents still send and receive wire orders through one or more of those networks, and many are working to grow direct orders through their own website to keep more of each sale.
Delivery here
US customers expect a delivery date and usually a window, and many expect same-day delivery when they order before a cutoff (often around midday). Most shops charge a delivery fee by zone or ZIP code, and in many states that fee is taxable when the flowers are. Funeral homes, hospitals and offices each have their own receiving hours, so set those as notes on the address. In GetFloristPOS you define zones with fees, time slots with a capacity per slot, and a cutoff per day; the van sheet groups the day's orders by slot and zone, and drivers mark each stop delivered.

What florists tell us
Sample These are illustrative sample reviews, written to show the kind of feedback we design for. Real reviews replace them once shops are live.
“The week before Valentine's we stopped promising 'sometime Saturday'. Each slot fills up, closes itself, and the van sheet for the 10 to 12 run prints in street order.”
“My designers work in Spanish, the screens are in Spanish, and the recipe for the dozen-rose arrangement takes the stems out of stock when we sell it.”
“Half our orders still arrive on WhatsApp. Now they go straight into the order book with the slot and the card message, and the invoice shows VAT the way our accountant wants.”
“Shaadi season used to be a notebook of advances. Each mehndi and barat booking now shows what was paid, what's due, and when. Customers get an Urdu receipt.”
FAQ
Does GetFloristPOS work in every US state?
Yes. It is hosted, so any shop with an internet connection can use it, and you set the sales tax rates that apply to your city and county.
How is pricing set for US shops?
Plans are priced per location in US dollars, billed monthly or annually, with no contract and no commission on orders. See pricing for the current numbers.
Can it handle wire orders from FTD, Teleflora or BloomNet?
Wire orders get their own queue. Your relay-network account connects by integration through our API connector, which we set up with you on a demo. We are not a partner of those networks.
Which card processor do I have to use?
None in particular. GetFloristPOS works with your processor, and card fees stay between you and them.
Is the delivery fee taxed?
It depends on your state. You choose whether delivery charges are taxable when you set up your tax rates.
Can I give my staff Spanish receipts?
Yes. Receipts and invoices can be printed in English or Spanish per layout, and the interface can be switched to Spanish for staff.
Do I need special hardware?
No. It runs in a browser on a computer or tablet, and works with common receipt printers, barcode scanners and cash drawers.
Which US cities do you have local guides for?
New York, Los Angeles and Houston, with notes on local peaks, delivery and the flower trade in each.
